Custom woven patches and badges
A woven patch is made on a loom from fine polyester thread, so the surface is flat and smooth, like a label, and it holds text down to 3 mm. Finished with a laser-cut or merrowed (stitched) edge, and iron-on, sew-on, self-adhesive or hook-and-loop (velcro) backing. Same price as embroidered, 4 to 6 weeks from proof approval.
What is a woven patch?
Thread woven flat on a loom, not stitched on top
An embroidered patch is sewn with thick thread on top of a twill base, so the design stands proud of the fabric. A woven patch, also called a woven badge, is made the other way round: fine polyester threads are woven through each other on a loom, so the design is the fabric. That is why it can carry small lettering, thin lines and detailed crests that embroidery would blur.
Flat and smooth, like a label
No raised thread and no gaps between stitches, so it sits flat on a sleeve, a cap or a bag and catches on nothing.
Text down to 3 mm
Names, founding years, mottoes and web addresses stay legible. Embroidery needs bigger text. If your logo is all bold shapes, embroidered looks richer, and we say so on the proof.
Laser cut or merrowed
Laser cut seals the weave with a thin, clean edge, so shields and lettering can run right to the border. Merrowed adds the classic thick stitched border.

See pin badgesWoven patches or woven badges?
The same thing. In the UK, "badge" is the usual word for uniforms, blazers and clubs, and "patch" for jackets, bags and kit. Both are woven from fine polyester thread on a loom and take the same backings.
Are woven or embroidered patches better?
Neither. Woven holds detail: small text, thin lines, crests with a lot going on. Embroidered has a raised, textured finish that makes a bold logo look rich. They cost the same, so choose on the artwork, and we tell you on the proof if the other type would hold it better.
How small can the lettering be?
3 mm tall. Smaller than that, the letters lose their shape in any thread. We flag it on the proof if your text is too small, and suggest a larger patch or shorter wording.
Is a woven patch the same as a woven label?
Same process, different product. A woven label is a thin strip sewn inside a garment with a brand name or care text. A woven patch is thicker, finished with a laser-cut or merrowed edge, and made to be seen on the outside, with the backing you choose.
Do woven patches fray?
No. Laser cutting seals the edge of the weave, and a merrowed border wraps it in thread. Either way the edge is closed before it leaves the factory.
How do I attach them?
Iron-on: a hot iron, firm pressure, then let it cool. Sew-on: a few stitches round the merrowed border, by hand or machine. Hook-and-loop (velcro): press onto the loop panel. Self-adhesive: peel and press, for one-off events.
Can they be washed?
Sew-on patches survive normal washing. Iron-on bonds well on cotton; we recommend a few stitches for heavy use. Hook-and-loop patches come off before the wash.
Can you make a woven patch from a photo?
Not in thread. Woven patches work from solid colours and clear shapes, so we simplify photos and gradients on the proof and show you before anything is made.
Can I order more than one design?
Yes. Each design is its own line in the basket with its own minimum of 50. Add another design from the basket.
Do you keep my design for reorders?
Yes. Reorders use the same proof and the same tier pricing. Email us the order number.
