01 / The right badge for a school
Who is wearing it? That decides the badge and the back.
Prefects want a badge that reads at a glance and stays on a blazer all year. House badges change colour, not design. Blazer badges go to the uniform supplier. Pick by who is wearing it.
| Where it is going | We would make | Backing | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prefects, head boy and head girl | Hard enamel bar or shield badge, 25 to 32 mm | Butterfly clutch, or locking clutch (+£0.31) | Polished flat, reads at a glance, and a locking clutch stays on a blazer all year. |
| House captains and house badges | Hard enamel, 25 mm, one design per house colour | Butterfly clutch | Same crest, different enamel colours. Each house is its own line of 50. |
| Student council and 100% attendance | Soft enamel, 19 to 25 mm | Butterfly clutch | The best-value badge for a reward given out every term. |
| Blazer badge | Embroidered, 80 to 90 mm | Sew-on | The school crest in thread, stitched on by the uniform supplier or at home. |
| PE kit and sports teams | Embroidered crest, 70 to 80 mm | Sew-on or iron-on (+£0.10) | Survives weekly washing. |
| Staff and governors | Hard enamel, 25 mm | Locking clutch (+£0.31) | A lapel badge that cannot work loose. |
Stock prefect badges sell for about £0.38 to £1.50 each. These are made to your own crest, with the mould included, and the price per badge falls as the quantity rises: see the grid below.

Can we pay by school purchase order?
Yes. Choose invoice or purchase order at checkout, add the PO number, and we email the invoice to the school. We start the proof once it is paid by bank transfer.
When should we order for September?
Allow time for the proof, 4 to 6 weeks of making from the day you approve it, and time for delivery. Ordering in June or early July lands them before term starts. Put your date into the checker on How it works.
Can prefect, house captain and council badges share one design?
Each badge title is its own design with its own minimum of 50. Where only the wording or the enamel colour changes, say so when you order and we draw the set together on one proof.
Do you make bar badges and shield badges?
Yes. Sizes are measured across the widest point, so a 44 mm bar badge and a 32 mm shield are both in the range. Say which shape you want and we draw it that way on the proof. Need a size outside the range? Ask us for a quote.
Can each badge carry a pupil's name?
Not per badge: each design has a minimum of 50, so individual names are not practical. Titles, house names and the year are.
What about blazer badges?
Embroidered, 80 to 90 mm, sew-on, in the school crest. Order them on the same proof as the pin badges and the uniform supplier stitches them on.
